Plenty of the cars we see were built to run on conventional oil, and they run on it just fine. You'll change it a bit more often, usually every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but each visit costs less.
You still get the full service: new filter, fresh oil, fluids topped off, and a quick look at your tires, wipers and belts.
When we'd recommend it
- Older cars that were designed for it.
- You don't drive much.

- You're on a tight budget. An oil change you actually get beats a fancy one you keep putting off.

Is regular oil okay in the winter here?
It works, but it gets thick below zero. If your car parks outside, a synthetic blend is only a few bucks more and makes a real difference on cold mornings.
